Following the installation of Taggle Smart Water Meters, Hinchinbrook Shire Council has reported a positive change in operations and water management. Utility Services staff are spending less time reading water meters and more time responding to issues in the network.

Staff are quicker than ever able to respond to issues with the tools provided by the new technology. Problems that previously went unnoticed are now being picked up and rectified.

Taggle’s Digital Water IoT Ecosystem quickly and easily identifies leaks. It also allows staff to address any water wasted on council property. Staff can notify residents and businesses of leaks on their properties, which are often concealed underground. This reduces water loss and the operational costs associated with treating and delivering the additional water should the leaks have continued for some time.

A free customer portal, Hinchinbrook H2O, allows businesses, property owners and tenants (subject to owner approval) to view and track water usage. Users can also identify leaks, and set leak and high consumption alerts by email and SMS.

How Taggle smart water meters are improving the lives of citizens

Access to hourly water consumption data allows residents to see the impact of their water use activities. As a result, they are empowered to make better decisions about how they use water. Awareness of high outdoor water use often surprises many residents, encouraging them to use water more efficiently.

Hinchinbrook Shire Council’s Customer Service team has provided quicker and more accurate resolutions for water users. Bill shock is also reduced as properties with significant leaks are notified as the leaks occur, rather than once a quarter during the billing cycle.

The Smart Water meters data has changed daily operations for the better. Council has made many positive workflow changes within Hinchinbrook Shire Council’s Utility Services staff and the Customer Service team.
