Sydney Water congratulates Young Utility Leaders

Sydney Water’s Elliot Cichero is to be congratulated as one of the six new Young Utility Leaders (YULs) selected for 2022/2023

Sydney Water would like to congratulate the six new Young Utility Leaders (YULs) selected for 2022/2023. Sydney Water’s Elliot Cichero has secured a place in the Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) program after being chosen from over 50 talented applicants.

Now in its fifth year, the WSAA program offers people under 30 passionate about the water industry the opportunity to learn from the best. It also gives them the opportunity to further their personal development and leadership potential.

“It’s an honour to be selected for this year’s program. I look forward to being inspired by senior experts in the urban water space. There are so many opportunities to develop my leadership skills further,” said Cichero.

“I also welcome the opportunity to work with and learn from other young leaders in this year’s cohort. There are many different climate challenges they face across the country.”

Elliot’s role as a Resilience & Climate Change Adaption Analyst involves measuring the impact of climate change on Sydney Water’s assets and business functions and reporting on the company’s carbon emissions and progress towards Net Zero.

“I’m passionate about climate change mitigation and adaptation. I’m committed to being proactive in this space. We need to ensure the future we leave for generations to come is sustainable,” said Cichero.

The new Young Utility Leaders for 2022/23 are Elliot Cichero from Sydney Water; Esther Cooper from TasWater; Kate Buckley from Seqwater; Lachlan Glascodine from Melbourne Water; Liz Duguid from Water Corporation and Ricardo Kobas from Barwon Water.

The successful applicants will work alongside senior leaders within the water industry. They will be involved in WSAA Board Committees, thought leadership events and initiatives. They will also be provided tailored coaching from the Peter Cullen Trust to develop their leadership skills further.

At the end of their year in the program, the Young Utility Leaders will pitch to the WSAA Board for the chance to win the Ross Young Memorial Scholarship.

Sydney Water wishes this year’s YULs all the best and is excited to see what they will achieve.
